This tutorial can get a little complicated, so if you need help (and you will unless you're an expert at photoshop) you can im me. my sn is beccabeliike. I'm always on aim if i'm on the computer, so hopefully you can catch me (:
You will need these patterns:
scanline, peace sign, circle pattern, hollister brush, zebra print, and pixels.
Make sure you define scanline, circles, peace sign, zebra print, and pixels into patterns, and define the hollister brush into a brush. Use this tutorial if you don't know how.
1. Open up the picture you would like to use. You can use a psd, too. I'm using this one.
2. First thing you want to do once the picture is opened, is resize the width to 400px. When you finish the sign, and upload it to myspace, if it's larger than 400, myspace resizes it and rapes it.
3. Right click on the lasso tool and select the polygon tool.
4. Cut out the sitemodel. You should now have this.
5. Press ctrl+c on your keyboard. Then press ctrl+v 3 times. Your layers should look like this. Now, delete the background layer. should be the bottom layer. (If you're going to colorize, do it now. here's how)
6. Double click on the first layer (should be layer 3) and go down to stroke, and make the settings like this.
7. Click on Layer 2 and make a new layer. It should appear under Layer 3, like so. Right click on layer 3 and select merge down. It should now look like this.
8. You should have your colors picked out. I'm using these. You can pick one out of my color schemes, or use someone else's.
9. Double click on your top layer again (layer 3). click on stroke, and make the settings like this. Click on the gradient image to change the colors. this will pop up. Drag the cubes left and right to move the colors around. click the cube, and select a color to change it.
10. Click on layer 2 again and make a new layer above it. Right click on the top layer (now called layer 4) and select merge down.
11. Click on stroke and make the settings like this. If you have already closed that box, open it back up and click drop shadow and match the settings to these.
12. We're done with that layer. Double click on the middle layer, now. Go down to stroke and make it like this.
13. Click on layer 1 and make a new layer. It should appear under layer 2. Right click on layer 2 and select merge down.
14. Right click on the image next to that layer and click select pixels. See what I mean.
15. Click on your brush tool and select a pattern that you would like to use inside the gradient. I'm doing stripes. I usually make mine white.
16. Click on the quick selection tool and right click on your picture and click "deselect". You should now have this.
17. Double click on the second layer (should be layer 6) and go down to stroke, and make the settings like this.
18. Make a new layer underneath that layer and merge layer 6 down.
19. Double click on your second layer again (now layer 7). click on stroke, and make the settings like this. You will have to do the gradient again, unless you saved it.
20. Make a new layer, again, underneath that layer and merge layer 7 down.
21. Make the settings under stroke like this, and under drop shadow like this. You should have this.
22. Click layer 1 and make a new layer above that. Get your vector brush, and make sure at the top the opacity is set to 100. Get a color from your color scheme, and stamp the brush down 5 times on layer 9. Make sure the vector covers the whole sign.
23. Right click on the image next to layer 9 and pick "select pixels". You should now have this. Get your quick selection tool and right click on the image and pick "select inverse".
24. The rays with no color should be selected, now. Click your brush tool and select a solid circle and size of 25px. Pick up a new color, too. Fill in every 2 rays with that color. It will look like this.
25. Make a new layer and fill in every 2 rays with another color. Repeat this step for the last ray, too. You should come up with something like this.
26. Double click on the last layer you filled in a ray with. mine's dark blue (layer 11). Go down to stroke and match the settings to this. Now go to drop shadow and match the settings to these. Go to pattern now and select a pattern. I'm doing circles.
27. Do all the same settings for layers 9 and 10 except the pattern. change the pattern to something different. Once you finish doing those you should have this. The rays should still be selected, though.
28. Click the quick selection tool and right click on your sign and click select inverse. The original color you used to stamp down the vector should be selected now. Click on your vector layer. Mine's the second from bottom. Make a new layer above it. Layers should look like this.
29. Click on the brush tool and select the hollister brush. it should be near the bottom if you just defined it. Stamp it onto your rays. Read this tutorial on how to rotate it.
30. Make a new layer above layer 12 and get the peace sign brush. Place it on the next ray.
31. Make another new layer and get the pixels brush and stamp it onto your last ray. You will need to get your eraser tool to clean up around that ray because the pixels go ontop the other two rays.
